Portrait of Adamine
The sunlight was 24 karat and a soft
breeze was cuffing the pines on their chins.
Adamine and I were standing by the water,
so close, I was afraid

Excerpt:
Next time you feel you want to turn back the clock of time, understand that you can’t
and focus on what you have now, do a new thing everyday like calling old friends everyday, anything good and fulfilling to you and others, appreciate what you have now, and that which you have lost, learn from it and move one leg in front of the other…dust yourself and march forward.
Finally, if you miss someone tell them now, call, text, fb,tweet, the channels are many you got no excuse, do it now…don’t wait till they are gone.
An Unsown Seed:
Stubborn,
Like your eyes will you have the traits of your father?
Visionary,
Destined a legend will you be like my father?
Maya’s phenomenal, a genius like your grand-mother,
I can’t help but wonder…..
What will be your life’s path…my child?
I’ve built a shrine for you
Plastered the walls with the letters I never wrote you
Furnished it with the broken memories of half remembered yesterdays
Set a candle by the windowsill that burned as harsh words in adolescence
A fountain dancing with rose petals sits by the corner
Here you are immortal
Sealed with the perfection of death
Forever young
Forever pure
Forever
Oh the betrayal of the womb!
The secret pleat
The tree whose fruit always falls
Never knowing how many shall roll away or stay
Mothers are meant to coo their children to sleep so that
in the fullness of time children could carry their mothers to sleep
But time was cruel to us
Bang
Damn
Perhaps we were destined only to dream of each other
Meeting there, meeting here
Familiar strangers speaking in silence
So I wrap your kanga around my waist
My body floats in your wedding dress awaiting the flight of my youth
Then I lay there on the tear-stained carpet
Hugging myself, limbs folded in hopeful origami
I smile
I know you are waiting for me…

Create words from the back of your mind that describe,
With power, nostalgia and truth in equal part,
Let them speak like the seal, let them draw like the mockingbird,
Converse with the celestials, tell me tales unheard,
Show me the wind with its elegance untapped,
The gazelle and the deer avoiding the hunters trap,
Tell me of gods and myths and reason and religion,
Blind my eyes to the earth, only to open it to the sun,
Hide my soul from the mortal, show me how the world begun,
Create energy, stop the tap that drips at night,
Manipulate electrons, catch the eagle as it spreads its wings of flight,
Dance me a song, write me a melody,
Draw me a poem, preach me a eulogy,
And even after you have done all the above,
You will be yet to reach the depths of a mothers love.

I’ve found a home in you.
I awoke this morning with you on my mind…
memories of how we met and how someday we’ll part… how I knew you were born for me right from the start. our girls, the miraculous shared, the mundane, the madness, the sadness, our love for one another, the friendship we share… our joy, our sorrow, the tomorrows we’ll share…your hands, your feet, your skin, the way you danced in the rain for me, the memory of you washing my hair, the beach we share, our long walks there, your support when I’ve been ill and loved me still… the way you’ve loved our girls without reservation, your willingness always to do more without hesitation… our intimate moments, the worst of times, and everything in between… our I do’s, our I love you’s… your kindness, your touch, your acceptance, your love, your eyes, your legs your voice, your strength, your compassion, your childhood memories… our walks, our talks, our silence, the places we’ve been, the places we’ve yet to see …because of this and so much more… I’ve found a home in you.
